Bulgarian Bags are ideal for adding to strength and plyometric weight training. Used as a free weight in various, simple and dynamic movements. Most of the exercises performed with kettle bells, dumbbells or barbells can be performed with the Bulgarian Bag. Athletes can use Bulgarian Bag training to develop quickness and agility with a “live” weight that can be struck, thrown or used in ways that solid iron weights simply can’t.
The Bulgarian Bag was invented by Ivan Ivanov at around 2005. Ivanov, a former Bulgarian Greco-Roman Olympic athlete, was working as a U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling coach and was looking for a training tool that would allow his wrestlers to improve explosive dynamic movements in pushing, twisting, swinging, rotating, squatting, lunging, throwing and lunging.
